Plein air, Vietnam

Hey guys,
The lovely lady and I are currently backpacking our way through Asia. I have been writing a lot, sketching some, and painting a tiny bit. Here is my favorite painting from Vietnam. Painted from the sun deck of the 'Opera' during our cruise in Halong Bay. Of course right after I blocked it in, the boat pulled anchor, but I carried on and finished it anyway :)

    1. Sorry CP, now that I don't have a job I forget to complain sometimes. I'm sure I'll get back into the swing of it once I am totally destitute and have to crawl begging, back into the bonds of wage slavery.

Was that a real rock, or did you use some of the magical faking skills you learned at weta?

  4. Aaron, if it was a Weta rock it'd have robot legs, swords for eyes and a finely embossed leather belt securing a surface to air missile launcher.
Awesome stuff, Matty - what does Plein air mean though?
It doesn't just mean painting outside does it?

    1. It means "painting outside" And "I'm smarter than Greg" all in one neat little parcel that just rolls off the tongue. Charming don't you think?

  5. Hey guys! Thanks for the comments. Sorry for the slow reply. Been in communist countries for the last wee while, and they don't like blogger much at all! I will update this post with a better image too - that one is pretty low res!
